Cyclist Abuse

The abuse came from his back seat passenger, the driver left me enough room, but it was a stupid overtake , on the other side of the road passing an oncoming vehicle, with his view to the left obscured by the white van from which a kid could run out or some other hidden danger..Pebble wrote: ↑13 May 2023, 9:27am Reminds me of when a car goes past and there is a large dog on the back seat with its head stuck out of the window, and it gives a big woof - similar IQ's I guess
Pity police Scotland didn't have a dedicated portal for uploading such videos, if this had been in Northumberland they might of given the driver 3 points and all you would of had to do was spend 10 minutes on the computer
Driver has responsibilities. I know of someone who lost his licence (points accumulation) because a passenger was squirting pedestrians with a water pistol. seemed harsh to me but I presume drivers must have responsibilities to what their passengers do.jrs665 wrote: ↑13 May 2023, 9:42am

I don't think that there is any specific legislation which does that.
Indeed, i can't find any specific laws to back this up. I think they gave the lad 3 points for due-care-and-attention. May be he should not have accepted it? Of course it was not a one off incident, and I think the police had already warned him a few days earlier. But he did get 3 points for the behaviour of his passenger.
its usually just a bunch of gobbledygook I hear, unless they shout really loudly above the road noise, or emphasis a word properly, I think my brain just ignores it, like even on this video Im like eh what did they say, who,etc ?axel_knutt wrote: ↑13 May 2023, 12:10pm What did he say? I get loads of calls from car windows, but as the car's past in little more time than it takes for one syllable, I never hear what's said. (With the exception of the guy who slowed down, pulled alongside, and shouted "Get a helmet!".)
I've only ever been squirted with water once, and that was from a cyclist's water bottle wielded by a passenger in a car with bikes on the roof.
maybe but the road surface looks poorer further out which would make it harder to ride, the cars look fairly safe to pass like that, most of the mirrors are tucked in and no obvious movement going on and Id presume the rider has been observing them for longer than the clip. doesnt stop the possibility of it happening but it feels a reasonable managed risk.tykeboy2003 wrote: ↑13 May 2023, 2:24pm What strikes me most about this is how close the cyclist is to the parked vehicles (unless the video is misleading). A danger of being car-doored and ending up on the tarmac in the path of an oncoming vehicle....
Have you ever considered just live streaming your entire ride to the nearsest police station?
I don't bother reporting bad driving as it would become a full time job. I have however reported 2 drivers recently whom the police are going to charge with careless driving.cycle tramp wrote: ↑13 May 2023, 5:45pm Additional, perhaps to me the most interesting thing about the clip was the driver's lack of judgement.. if he had waited just ten more seconds it appears that not only was there no on coming traffic after the on coming car, but considerable less parked vehicles.
Personally I would still give it to the police, the driver may already have a string of complaints against them...
Spot on. Also as going uphill, plenty of time to make sure that the vehicles are unoccupied. The avoid the bad road surface you either had to keep to the left or ride next to the centreline.awavey wrote: ↑13 May 2023, 4:28pmmaybe but the road surface looks poorer further out which would make it harder to ride, the cars look fairly safe to pass like that, most of the mirrors are tucked in and no obvious movement going on and Id presume the rider has been observing them for longer than the clip. doesnt stop the possibility of it happening but it feels a reasonable managed risk.tykeboy2003 wrote: ↑13 May 2023, 2:24pm What strikes me most about this is how close the cyclist is to the parked vehicles (unless the video is misleading). In your first sentence you say you don't report bad drivers. In your next sentence you say you have reported two drivers. Was that for careless, as opposed to bad driving? How do you distinguish them?jrs665 wrote: ↑13 May 2023, 7:12pmI don't bother reporting bad driving as it would become a full time job.
