MARSDEN TO MANCHESTER BY TRAIN
MARSDEN TO MANCHESTER BY TRAIN
Are trans pennine very strict with regards to bike reservations? I am doing a 40 mile canal ride from Littleborough to Marsden via Huddersfield. I have no idea what time i will be leaving Marsden and cannot do a reservation before i board the train as i do not have the internet on my phone, possible that i will leave Marsden after 7pm, any advice would be very much appreciated thank you.

While technically reservations are compulsory on TPE, I've never once been asked for proof, even though I've always had one.
That's not to say you won't be, of course.

You can book via several options - I've used an open return ticket in the past (wasn't sure when my ride would be finishing so just a case of any train back) and booked via WhatsApp once I've got to the station on the next available train. Very simple process and you can book with as little as 15 mins spare.
That assumes you have WhatsApp though which from your comment
I don't like travelling on TPE, they're very unreliable at the moment. Northern are better and you don't need a bike reservation at all, simply turn up and get on.

Northern don't serve Marsden station (although they do manage it!) - only Transpennine stop there.

It's only likely to be a problem if there are too many bikes for the train, and the other cyclists have reserved their spaces.
