Rigor mortis in the case of the dogs, I guess.

Not sure what the proposition is here. Are you suggesting that a million people who signed a petition are deficient in some way?

What I find difficult about the action of the Met is that there are humane ways to put a dog down and a bullet in the heat of the moment is not such a means.

A lot must depend on the circumstances but there a few aspects from what I've seen reported (which may be subject to reporting accuracies) that concern me and these days I have no trust in the Met and them investigating themselves.

(I wasn't aware of the petition and have not signed it)

Yes, the reason why c1:70 members of the population have signed it might not be that they are all soppy about crazy dogs but that they are concerned about bullets being let fly in a densely populated urban area.

Ditto. It’s sad to say that our confidence is UK policing is justifiably low. An acquaintance who severed a full career in my local force believes that it is now a poorly shadow of its former self; of course I’m still glad it’s there and we still have much to be thankful for but it’s yet another public service that’s only part of what it should be.

What’s the root of the problem? Well, when we don’t fund the infrastructure of society properly it’s bound to erode. Taxation is a burden on all we do and achieve, but not funding infrastructures correctly leaves us in such a state as to make achieving anything much somewhat burdensome if even possible.
Don’t fret, it’s OK to: ride a simple old bike; ride slowly, walk, rest and admire the view; ride off-road; ride in your raincoat; ride by yourself; ride in the dark; and ride one hundred yards or one hundred miles. Your bike and your choices to suit you.

1st video (or rather 1st I opened beggars belief. I can't see justification, particularly given the positioning of people and given they have the special device to loop round dog's neck at distance. Dirty Harry is alive in the UK.

So now we have gun crazed "royal enforcers".

It just seems like an awful episode with needless escalation and sad outcomes.

IMHO

The petition is nothing about the shooting of the dogs.

Its general complaint about the reduction in standard of the Metropolitan Police Service.

I accept the police could had handled this incident better; better training may be needed.

But my point is over 1,000,000 sign it assuming it was about dogs being shoot, have sense of perspective.

Did they sign a petition about?
Child abuse by the church,
river pollution
car driver knocking people down.
corruption/incompetence in government and local authorities.

Just take guns away from people who go around shooting dogs in public. Simples.

PS: On the subject of intellectual rigour: did you read the petition and watch the videos before starting this thread? Thanks.
