Indoor trainer for non quick release bike?

Post by ikr2 »

Hi,

I'm looking to build up some fitness (after an illness) so I can go backing to commuting by bike more often. And I've discovered that indoor trainers for bikes exist!

I'd like a wheel-on trainer and the hybrid bike I'm thinking of using does not have quick release wheels. Does a decent budget option exist for this set up? Would I need to invest in a turbo trainer tyre too?

Some wheel-on trainers fit nutted (non-Q/R) wheels better than others. That's led some people to say that nuts don't fit trainers, but it's untrue. Try before you buy, or at least check the specifications.

Turbo trainer tyres are a good idea because trainers can be hard on ordinary tyres, but they aren't essential. See whether you like the experience first, and buy a special tyre if you find you're doing a fair bit on the trainer.

I just use up all my old road tyres that I saved in case they are handy one day  I bin them when the canvas appears.
