Resistance vs cardio

I'm 62 and trying to follow the advice for my age in mixing cardio and resistance. I'm 107 kg and climb quite aggressively. This I do most days as I have a 15% hill on the way home.

Will that do for leg resistance, or should I be doing squats in the gym ?

I'm also 62 and haven't been in a gym in years. A touch heavier than you but also 6ft3. I think your hill climbs are adequate. I do a mix of cycling (both hilly and flatter routes) swimming, and the odd hillwalk.

I think you can overthink it. If you are active, doing something you enjoy, then you are more likely to keep doing it and the fitness to some extent looks after itself.

That said, if you are already a regular gym user there is no harm throwing in a few squats. I don't think they are needed though if you are regularly doing a 15% hill..

A lot will depend on what your aims are and what you're hoping to achieve. But agree with the above, do both.
