What would you save if the house was on fire?

I'm not worried - I've got smoke detectors!

It was a hypothetical question - many years ago my parent's house was flooded and we had no warning. We went round saving all the wrong things like the TV which we could replace but lost items of no monetary value but which were irreplacable to us. I just wondered what other people's priorities would be - I said the photos as an example of some thing we couldn't replace.

And Ruby the cat of course - she's irreplacable!

i'm glad about the detectors jan! i hope everybody on here has them. now to answer your question, i know its sad but i would rescue my "activities diary/ledger" it started as a bit of fun recording walks, runs, cycles etc, recorded companions, times, dates, the news story at the time, the music of the time, daft things that happened. sadly registers a few deaths of pals past.
great to look back on but scary too. i was up a fell in the lakes and it was 15 years since my last visit, i'd guessed at 7years. i kept up to it for some reading when i'm old and crippled. i would rescue this.

Mrs B and Sarah, get out stay out!

I suppose its because I'm responsible for organising fire drills at work and we have between 800 and 1,000 people in the building when it's busy, so I'd be a bit hypocritical if I went arround picking up this and that, and then I'd have to face my mate at work, ---Ex Fire man.
Percussive maintainance, if it don't fit, hit it with the hammer.

kids and wife first, my touring bike, (if enough time) my pinarello, but who cares, the kids and wife are the most important, without them - cycling, tv, dvd etc there is NO POINT without them!!!

I'd grab my insurance documents and credit cards.
Then I'd have a quick scan to make doubly sure there were no 'new for old' exclusions.

Then I'd grab some chestnuts, spuds and a roll of baking foil (and a couple of chairs).

The QNT and at the same time, Mrs byegad would save the Kettwiesel, even if I had to send her back in for it ten times.

I would grab the fire and move it away from the house....much less trouble than worrying about which possessions to save first.

Too right.

A lot of teachers would be very grateful if, instead of young couples deciding on whether to have a baby, they decided whether to have a teenager.

Who in their right mind would choose that?

I suspect if most parents were immediately faced with the prospect of an ignorant, uncommuncative person 'soiling' their house, lounging all over the furniture, eating them out of house and home, drinking all the beer out of the fridge whilst expecting a roof over their heads for nothing/a pittance the human race would have become extinct some time ago.

I'd suggest leaving babies until they're in their early twenties when they become humans again.

I'd save the guinea pigs first. Everything else I could probably easily replace, but providing there's enough time I'd probably grab the photos and my Galaxy.
