Uneven (V) brake wear

Just changed the pads on my V brakes. They have worn out in one year (les than usual) and I have noticed that they are worn out at the front, but nearly "as new" at the back. Is this normal or am I setting them up wrong?

When you set new pads up, do you toe them in - i.e. set the front edge slightly nearer the wheel than the back? If so, maybe you're just overdoing the toeing-in a bit.

I change my front brake pads about once a year, though I think I over-toe-in. I ride fixed so have little wear from the rear.
You probably do.

I find I need a lot of toe-in to top the brakes squealing. I generally use the brakes gently so the wear is mostly on the front of the block, and I need to adjust them now and again to restore the toe-in. when the front of the block's worn out, there's very little wear at the back.

I'm lazy, so my V brakes use insert blocks and are set at the mid wear point and only the cable adjusted. The front does wear more than the back, but not by a huge amount, I find better pads, like Koolstop Salmon, require less toe in and only occasionally squeal.
