rjb wrote: 27 Jun 2023, 8:18am Dosent sound that secure. What stops some passing chancer exiting the Queen's Head trying some random numbers to see if they get lucky, and waving to the security camera when they hit the jackpot.
Well, I opened my phone and read the six digit code - 96566466

The buttons are BIG. I found it difficult to hit the buttons, being used to small numerical keys. No doubt they are BIG so the infirm or the poorly sighted can use it. Because of the button size - size of a £2 coin maybe - and they are rather far apart, I got the code wrong three times!

Not helped by the buttons not beeping or clicking, but registering on a screen high up and not in line of sight when concentrating on the buttons.

It was only when I got it correct, that the machine whirred and clicked, and then my preventer inhaler dropped into the hopper and the door lock released.

Mine has to be stored in a fridge before dispensing, so I was nicely happy that they could do it automatically. I noticed that my pack was cold. Therefore the unit is refrigerated.

He already noted that he mistypes it often!

Me typing without thinking!

Here's some photos.
Difficult to show scale, so I put my hand and fingers near the numbers to give a sense of scale.
The screen is above my sight-line, so I have to look up. I'm 5ft 10ins tall, but Mrs Mick F is only 5ft 2ins, so she will have more difficulty than me.
The buttons are at my chest-height, and they would be nearly at Mrs Mick F's shoulder-height.
How some short people will get on with this, I can only guess.

I should have taken my tape measure.

Yes, that's the MedPoint system:

That one is VERY different to ours, and it looks far more sensibly arranged.

Is that standalone? Does someone have to load up a trolley, wheel it out into the yard, and then stand in the rain loading the machine? I wonder how long before the local druggies put it on the back of a truck with a JCB and drive off with it. AFAIK the delivery from all our local pharmacies is free, and if it isn't, there are online pharmacies that are.

I think that MedPoint supports both local loading and centralised off-site preparation and loading.

There's a lot of disruptive technology in this sector, and a smart supplier would be very flexible.

And, as upthread, different patients (and carers) will have different preferences.

Some of those delivery services are loss leaders, but I expect that home deliveries will continue when the funding model catches up.

It's £4 per delivery here, but it's naff all use having home delivery if you don't work at home all the time!

Click and collect would be far better but it's not here yet.

Even if so, it's hardly difficult to put a brolly holder onto the trolley handle.

Was that another example of the great British "won't do" attitude?

Yes, it's "stand alone" and therefore needs to be loaded manually outside. Must be a door or something on the back. I'll look next time I'm in the village.

Each and every prescription needs to be in a separate slot so the machine would know what goes to the correct person. I'll bet that two people need to do it and each checks on the other.

I'd expect it to be one person and some autoidentification such as barcoding. That's cheaper and safer.

Two more shots.
The side door to the unit is opposite the staff side door in/out of the health centre.
Notice the surveillance camera.
