Change that bent crank -- should be OK.

Cheers for that.
I have fitted the bikes original crank arm but the other side needs the chain ring removing...

...I'll have to wait until morning now, I doubt the neighbours would appreciate me getting the angle grinder out.

You'll get a tool for that yes?

Does it unscrew? I figured the aluminium arm was peened onto the steel chain ring.

Again, thanks for that.
The bike is useable but looks weird with one black arm and one silver, speaking to the local bike shop they only sell the left hand arms, the right hand ones come attached to the chain ring. I ended up buying 2 left hand ones and the shop found me a used left hand pedal that matches.
Do you think thread lock will be enough to stop the pedal from unwinding in use?

No.

Have you found a suitable part online?

Or how about asking a local co-operative if you can root through their bits?

If you have a 41/2" grinder, just put a buffing disc on and buff the paint off the original crank.

Is the right hand side in same way important to the motor? If not life will be a lot easier just shoving a new crank on. Probably cheaper. Ebay is your mate here.

If the chain ring is riveted to the the crank you have a cheap crank set that is not best played with.

Well I've fitted the two left handed crank arms so we'll see what happens. Luckily the pedals use a 15 m.m. spanner which I carry with me anyway for the rear wheel nuts.

All those tools fit into one side of my triangular frame bag, other side takes my phone, bank card and a pack of ciggies!
I also carry a spare inner tube and a chain tool with spare links but they are with my waterproofs in the panniers.

My Mrs. suggested black paint but the arms are a slightly different shape.

No both arms are independent to the motor.
Yep, those are the items I need.
