Hi got a strange issue with Wahoo Speedplays.
The standard tension on a pair of Fizik shoes feels like there is more float than before, I've even got off the bike during a ride because they feel like they've come loose, anyone else experienced this?
Are they not compatible with Fizik shoes? I've ensured they're flat to the outersole & torqued correctly, maybe it's the shoe. Got a pair of Shimano arriving today so I'll see if it's the same with these? Always had Speedplays but never had this issue of it feeling like they've come undone. Also when clipped in, I can tilt my foot side to side with a creaking noise, obviously I wouldn't ride like that, but the old ones didn't do this.
Look pedals; why do they creak? How can I make this noise stop?
I had tried Shimano in the past, but they always felt like they were coming undone, because they'd be a strange forward & back motion, whatever shoes I tried, kept getting off the bike to check they hadn't come loose.
Hope someone can help, thanks.
Speedplay, Look & Shimano issues
Re: Speedplay, Look & Shimano issues
hello
in my experience look pedals don't creak - it's the cleats on your shoes getting dirty/worn. try a bit of GT85/WD40 on them and leave to dry somewhere not on the carpet. usually works.

SPD-SL road cleats? I’ve never had an issue with mine (I’ve never tried the MTB-style recessed cleats - even on my tourer).Nat0109 wrote: ↑24 Jul 2023, 9:44am Hi got a strange issue… I had tried Shimano in the past, but they always felt like they were coming undone, because they'd be a strange forward & back motion, whatever shoes I tried, kept getting off the bike to check they hadn't come loose.

Are your shoes too big?!!?
Re: Speedplay, Look & Shimano issues
Regarding Speedplay, Have you got the correct match for cleats/pedals? Speedplay used to do some light action cleats which feel much looser to me - felt like my foot was slipping around.
Despite what they say there is more compatability, and not a strict match for pedals / cleats.
I'm still on original speedplay zero - not gone to any wahoo yet. I couldn't get on with the light action ones, but the zero ones are fine. No problem with any shimano ones either. never tried anything else.

If your seat is too high this can lead to the feeling you describe, especially with Speedplay pedals.
Re: Speedplay, Look & Shimano issues
Yellow Speedplay cleats = not much float
Grey cleats = lots of float
... as I am sure you know.

I should coco.

Re: Speedplay, Look & Shimano issues
There has been a problem with Wahoo's Speedplay pedals developing lateral play in the bearings, is this what you're describing? Sometimes this apparently develops after very few miles.
My understanding is that they had a lot of warranty returns and for a long time insisted the problem was resolved when it wasn't.
Most Speedplay fans in the know were hanging on to their original versions, which were at least serviceable (Wahoo's aren't) and didn't have this issue.
