General racing chitchat

Now we have something / quite-a-lot to discuss and celebrate.

Let’s hope the coverage is better than the recent CX from the USA. The picture quality reminded me of old cine camera movies and the positioning of cameras abysmal. The whole thing had a very amateur feel to it which didn’t help an unexciting course.

Pog to go to the Giro. He seems to go better in cooler weather so it might suit him pretty well. I wonder which of the other big names will be there- I seem to remember G was taking about doing it again but maybe not Roglic and maybe not Remco who both seem to be targeting the tour. It would be nice to see Poggie get a triple set of GT wins.

Nb should this be general racing chitchat 2024?!

Your choice, you can start a new one, or as OP you can rename this one...

He seems to suit anything pretty well, to be fair!

I'm sure he will get the full set, especially now it seems it's not All About The Tour. Perhaps more a case of who's going to stop him?

A truly special racer, just wish his team wasn't sponsored by a sports-washing petro-state 🤷‍♂️

Matt Stephen’s cafe rides. I’m clearly reverting to you tube without GCN+.

Tadej Pogacar. Loved the bit where he accelerated past Matt on the climb.

A Rich Roll long form interview ( just over an hour ) with Mark Cavendish.

Also seems to be available from all the usual podcast sources.

Just listened to the first half of a 2 part podcast with Matt Stephens (ex GCN presenter, pro racer from back in the day, ex GB Road champion).

It's on the geraint Thomas cycling club feed.

Fascinating insight into the precarious life of a professional cyclist back in the 1980/90s. He's a very engaging guest and generally good egg.

Haha.
They're all still out there in YouTube land.
I've not watched any road cycling on discovery+ yet, so I don't know if the coverage will be last years GCN+ team. They used the same stream for eurosport last year, so hopefully it's the same this year.
Not sure that I'll bother with UAE, so Omloop or strada will probably be my season debut.

It is the same presenters, there has been some good racing although I’ve got slightly addicted to the US home renovation shows on discovery so haven’t watched as much racing as I planned, On the upside it’s got me repainting the house.

I’ve enjoyed parts of the Volto al Algarve (the ITT), the Marseille classic (mostly for the scenery), the Var classic (unexpected ending- presented by Matt Stephens and Jose Been), and odds and ends of other stuff. Both Australia and the Middle East (ongoing) and Mallorca had some interesting scenery watching even if the racing wasn’t amazing. The Camino starts today I think and the cobbled classics begin this weekend.

Agreed on Matt Stephen’s and I’ve listened to that too- from the giro to Morrisons to a police officer and now a presenter. The various podcasts keep me more engaged with what is happening in the racing world too- I have echelon and domestique and the cycling Dane for instance.
