Bike insurance

This will annoy the odd few who are against all things but here we go
I have ALWAYS had bike insurance, that is public liability and personal accident, why, because should I hit a car or person or animal I am covered by insurance, especially now I have e bikes, let us be honest ALL of us if injured or had our car damaged by a cyclist WOULD want them to be insured. I would sue.
Therefore, would compulsory insurance be a good thing.
Many people moan about insurance, it is as my father used to say "Insurance is a con UNTIL you NEED it"

Many people who ride bikes were surprised by the allocation of damages in a *recent case involving a collision with a pedestrian.
I know it's... non-traditional... in this forum but could we try listing the advantages and disadvantages of compulsory insurance before coming to any conclusions... ?
As Original Poster would you like to go first?

..folks count me out of this one....
..what I would say to those people who believe that they have insurance is to really check the wording, especially if it uses the phrases 'adopted road' rather than 'space open to the public', legally there could be a difference
Mattheus- you were right, I owe you a coke...
I look forward to further discussions such as
'Should cyclists have compulsory training before they go on the road'.. 'should cyclists take regular eye checks' 'should bikes have a yearly m.o.t' and 'should cyclists carry registration'..
.yeah, anyway life is too f@#&ing short ..

How did it work the last time you sued? Was it successful? Did you find the process easy?

Actually... I am going to add one more thing.. the only way I can see my car being damaged by someone riding a bike is if we were in a collision. In which case any damage is a very low secondary prioriy, because the chances are that bicycle user may now be facing serious life threatening or life changing injuries or even possibly dead.
In the case of the first it would mean remembering my first aid and making them comfortable until the emergency services appear... in the case of the later any damage to the car would be irrelevant, either I was in the wrong and could now be facing imprisonment or even if I was in the right I would still not wish to drive ever again...
Cars and bits-of-them can easily be replaced. People can't. Not ever... and having read the original post again I am so very disappointed that there appears to no concern about how the hypothesised damage may have taken place, the force needed to damage a car, and the effects of the resulting force on the hypothetical bicycle user...
Perhaps what would be a good thing is compulsory first aid courses update every 3 years.

You need to ride with disabled / autistic people, and you will SEE the potential for a collision with people or pedestrians this also applies to ANY who post here who say accidents are unlikely
ALSO
THIS is NOT rare
I will also not satisfy any others asking for proof etc etc etc

It's only a dent, get over it. I would be much more concerned that the bike rider hasn't suffered concussion or delayed shock.... I'd also check that his front wheel was still true - if it was I'd be asking for the name of his wheel builder. If the bike wasn't rideable I might even drive the guy home, just to make sure he had someone to look out for him- true local story about a decade ago, a motor scooterisr goes into the back of a car. Feels fine, the helmet took the brunt of the damage.. 24 hours later, she dies. Bleed on the brain. Your father needs to change his priorities.
'The things you own, end up owning you'. That's a direct quote from the film 'Fight club'. Have you watched 'Fight Club' ?

I think that a good use of insurance is to be able to point out to those drivers who moider on about cyclists not being insured, that CUK members are insured to £10m third party and that cyclists are so unlikely to do much harm that this insurance is thrown in free with membership.
