Edge Explore issue

I've had an Edge Explore for about three years. I use it for navigation, usually setting the route in Komoot and sending it across to the Edge via Garmin Connect. It's worked perfectly with the turn-by-turn instructions being very clear and accurate. I generally have a data screen on by default switching automatically to the map screen in advance of a turn.
Just recently it's started giving me the first turn instruction, then saying something like 'Ride to Longhorn Lane' where Longhotn Lane is part of the route but about 75% of the way through. The map works perfectly and I can follow the route on there but have to keep it on that screen due to the lack of TBT instructions. Once I reach Longhorn Lane it starts to work perfectly.
It'd done this on every route since it started happening, new ones and old ones. I've tried reloading the routes, made sure the OS & maps are up to date, checked there are no strange settings I've accidentally changed. I've also made sure there are no 'markers' on the map at 'Longhorn Lane', in every case the Lane in question is just part of the route, no waymarkers or any other sort of marker.
Anyone else had this issue or have any ideas how to fix it? Next step is a factory reset I suppose but thought I'd ask here first.

No problem on my Edge but I was going to say do a reset. You will loose anything that you have set or saved on it so remove the SD card if there is one.
Is there an SD card ?

No experience with the original Explore, but my Touring used to occasionally do similar, though it was intermittent and it would lose the instructions and then sometimes they'd reappear miles later. Factory reset didn't make any difference, neither did trying a different SD card and re-loading maps, but it does no harm to try. I did consider if it was a problem with the source, so a couple of times loaded the same route from different sources, but of course it never happened when I was prepared!

Thanks folks, I'll try a rest and if that doesn't work I'll just have to buy a new 540 Solar...

Its a waypoint issue - not uncommon, especially on older units, my old Edge Touring did it occasionally. Not had it with the Explore or the Explore 2 though.
When you upload a route from (in your case) Komoot, it transfers across as a series of waypoints, the unit then recalculates the route between them (which is why you can plot a perfectly good road route and then the GPS can direct you off down bridleways because the settings from the third party route planner don't align with the settings in the head unit, but I digress).
Sometimes, when transferring the route across, something somewhere will glitch and it'll miss half a dozen waypoints in between so the next one it picks up will be (eg) Ride to Longhorn Lane.
I never found a way of curing it although it seemed to be minimised if you created clear waypoints that weren't directly on junctions or turns - always place the waypoint just after the turn. Also, place it just after any tracks, bridleways etc to force the unit to realise that you want to stay on the road.

Interesting.....just been doing a route for tomorrow so have added in a few extra waypoints (I usually just do what is needed to get the route I want). See what that does....

You don't have to lose settings if you have to do a reset.
Just copy all these folders from the GARMIN to somewhere safe:
Garmin\Activities
Garmin\Courses
Garmin\Locations
Garmin\Records
Garmin\Screenshots
Garmin\Settings
Or better yet, copy the entire contents of the GARMIN to your PC, so it's not possible to lose anything.
If you have messed with a setting, then backing up that last one and copying it back will still perpetuate the same issue, because the settings will get restored, so you could try just not restoring that, setting whatever you think needs setting, then try the route and see if it still has the issue.
I actually made my own backup thing for doing this but I never got around to releasing it here.

I'm not sure that's the issue, it wasn't with my Touring. The Garmin is following the predetermined course, for both me and as described by the OP, it just isn't giving the TBT instructions. If it was missing waypoints, wouldn't it also affect the route? I've had it on an Audax where I've lost the TBT for half a 200km ride, yet it's still showed the corect course, which wouldn't have been the obvious choice if left to decide for itself!

Waypoints made no difference, so I did a factory reset and Bingo! For now at least.....
