New DB Bahn Website

The DB Bahn website has been updated, and it looks like it is much better for booking for groups and bikes (including international journeys such as the Amsterdam-Berlin service):

https://int.bahn.de/en

You can now book more than 5 people at a time and be offered a 'Super Sparpreis Europa Gruppe' ticket (which gives you free seat reservations).

You can book more than 5 bikes at a time, including on the Amsterdam-Berlin service (previously you couldn't book bikes on international services and had to phone the call centre). It looks like they have done away with the separate international bike ticket, and now there is only one bike ticket at €9.

I usually have to phone the call centre in Berlin to book trains for my group, but now it looks like it can all be done online.

An example of what you can now do (6 People + 6 bikes, from Amsterdam Centraal to Magdeburg):

The search shows that there are bike spaces available and can be purchased via the website:

Selecting this offer and entering the (dummy) ages for the 6 passengers shows the tickets that are available (as there are more than 5 people, you can now purchase a group ticket):

Free seat reservations are included as it is a group ticket (they normally cost €4.50 each):

Bike reservations are made on the Amsterdam-Hannover and Hannover-Magdeburg trains, and the bike tickets are included (€9 each):

This is a big improvement on the previous system.

Great news. Well done to DB for implementing this.

Now if they could just get their trains to run on time...

Great. Thanks for letting us know.

Run on time? Ha! Tell you where on the platform to stand for the bike spaces? No chance. Still, improvements are welcome.

I have just returned from a four day ride with my wife. We caught the (Deutsche Bahn) train home. There was a bus replacement service around a subsided section of track. The signs in the station showed the route to the bus only by foot, not lift, so we got separated and lost. The bus driver was very patient. The "connection" was a different train that stopped at every station and rapidly filled to bursting with people, buggies, suitcases and bikes. The next train was the same, running a reduced service because of a huge building project running late. The driver had to keep telling us to move away from the doors to allow them to close - difficult when there is no more space to move into. We were wedged upright most of the way. Still, we had a good conversation with a consultant from INEOS on a carbon bike and a friendly Greek drunk.
