Trustee Elections 2023
Trustee Elections 2023
Why would we make an effort to vote when they give us 2 candidates for 2 positions. Obviously they will both be elected. The Boards Nominations Committee rejected all the other candidates, so effectively they picked the winners. That feels more like a dictatorship than a democracy. Your thoughts please?

Couldn't agree more, assuming the others met the membership criteria they should have been on the ballot. It ought to be for the members to select the trustees. I've no objection to there been a general statement alongside the list of candidates laying out what the committee feels the necessary skills are, but in it's current form this is not an election. Its a rubber stamping exercise that even the likes of Russia and North Korea would be embarrassed to portray as anything democratic. This is no reflection on the suitability or otherwise of the two candidates - it's just about the process. Would have been better just to say there were only two suitable candidates and they have been appointed. Unless there's a threshold of support they have to receive it's a pointless exercise.

I’d echo much of the two posts above. I usually try to vote in all organisations that I’m part of but on this occasion my ballot paper went for recycling.
Don’t fret, it’s OK to: ride a simple old bike; ride slowly, walk, rest and admire the view; ride off-road; ride in your raincoat; ride by yourself; ride in the dark; and ride one hundred yards or one hundred miles. Your bike and your choices to suit you.

That isn't possible, the process is explained on the voting paper, a couple of paragraphs before the bit that says "It's vital every member has a say in how the charity is run They could at least drop the pretence.teamonster wrote: 11 Oct 2023, 5:47pm Would have been better just to say there were only two suitable candidates and they have been appointed.
That's the way it is, the battle for it to be any different is long gone, the trustees have an obligation to the charity and are not answerable to the membership. I can't say I feel too worked up about it, I never felt the membership had much say before.

When the CTC council changed the voting process it was stated at both the council meetings and at the AGM that any CTC member could stand in the election as long as they met the legal requirements. After the AGM a small clique on the council changed the rules without a vote.
There is no democracy in CUK.
