Competition: what to put in this Garmin mount.

The new bicycle has a Garmin style mount fixed to the stem.

I don't have anything to put in it, so the options are:

A: remove it.
B: find something; but what ?

So I have decided to run a small competion for the best suggestion. The prize will be an item from my bicycle clutter draw, awarded on December 1st.

I don't think so, they need a fabulated brass bracket, and in any case the electron flux from the motor would interfere with reception.

I am working on a prototype Moral Compass but It's to big for the bicycle ***.

*** It also gets very overheated whenever the Covid Enquiry is mentioned.

Altimeter. You might just need an adapter though. Do Garmin do one?

There are three options:
1) Find a suitable object which will fit the Garmin mount.
Two) Find a desirable object and adapt or create a bracket for it to fit the Garmin mount.
C) Make the Garmin mount itself a desirable or useful feature.

It is possible that you might find something which satisfies both 1) and Two), but this is unlikely, unless of course you were to decide you actually wanted a Garmin. Therefore I suggest option C). The obvious route then is to turn your Garmin mount into... Mount Garmin! Using sugru or similar, fashion a small mountain to fit into the "well" of the mount. This well could be painted blue, representing water – a moat or sea. The mount(ain) itself might then take the form of a Norman motte and bailey castle, with keep; a conical volcano, such as Fuji; or a jagged peak, such as the Matterhorn or Kanchenjunga, or indeed any other mountain that you might prefer.

Well with one of these you'd have a GoPro mount that could potentially be adapted for lights or whatever. I've been trying to find a way to get a paper-map holder onto it as the ultimate act of defiance

Or slightly more boringly put a phone on it.

Looks like it's made for a watch. Will keep you on time.

Next best thing would be a flux capacitor from doc brown and Marty Mcfly.
Touch to activate.

The obvious thing for some GPS-less navigation is a compass, but that's no good on ferrous metal - so you could do a 3D print of a Bagnold Sun Compass like the LRDG used:

You can probably find a Garmin mount 3D print and paste it on to the bottom.

A small sextant could be useful for finding position if GPS is unavailable.

Might have to stop and get off the bike to use it .......

Get a Garmin. You think you don't need one in the same way you used to think you didn't need an E-bike
Before you dismiss the idea, have you looked at the E-bike specific functions they offer and if they're compatible with your bike? I'm not entirely sure what they are, my bike isn't compatible, but those who are using them together seem pleased with the experience.

It rather depends on what else you use for data. I have an ebike conversion which gives mph, trip distance, ODO, battery state etc., but doesn't have a clock.
As I don't want to have a mobile phone on my handlebars and don't need satnav I use one of these:-

Looks compact, has a clock and is cheap enough (mine was from ebay).
The only potential problem for you is that it comes with a Garmin mount, so you'll have another one you don't know what to do with  (unless you have another bike?).

Don't forget that ebay will supply 3D printed connectors that go into this mount. They are meant for Garmins with broken tabs but could be used for anything. Bottle opener?
