Thanks for getting back JohnR. I hear what you say, but if I Street View Tredrea Lane, there's no sidewalk, its a little country lane.

One possibility is to go that way and be prepared to negotiate with whoever is doing the work and explain that it didn't say that it was closed for pedestrians (which includes people pushing their bikes). Usually there's space and willingness to let pedestrians and cyclists through provided that the workers are aware of their presence. Also, a two week closure for some repairs and maintenance is generous and I wonder if the planners have allocated a generous period to allow for our fickle weather as patching can't be done if everything is wet. If the road normally gets a reasonable amount of traffic then the traffic info on Google maps might give a clue but this doesn't work if the road is also shown as closed.

I think you've nailed it there, JohnR, with the word negotiation. It always seems to work, a good mannered request to the folks on site (Goodrich, Nantwich, Pateley Bridge are three roadworks examples where I have asked for and received help). I'll do that, but I still need to paln the best diversion.

Just started Way of the Roses Return as final training for LEJOG which starts next Thursday. Just on the 2nd day which has 4400 feet climbs, mostly in first 34 miles, which I reckon is harder than any LEJOG day. 280 miles all in.....ironic as I'm joined by a mate of mine which thought LEJOG would be too hard straight off

I've just opened RidewithGPS and it's now got a feature called Personal Rides. No way, it can't have picked up all my rides ever....so I checked a mistake I made first time doing LEJOG in 2010 where I missed a left turn a bit after Dava....and there it was! When I get in tonight I'm going to check 2013 where I think I lost some days, either way, it's an amazing tool. Sheeez, it does show how often I got lost in Cornwall.

My friend (a non cyclist doing a charity LEJOG) started Monday and hasn't had a dry or decent tailwind day yet. He's earning his sponsorship.

I'm a bit worried though, he's doing a lot of the route on bridleways etc and as the bike got pretty muddy he's just taken it to a car wash to get a pressure wash

I should have told him, while I was prepping his bike, that this is not a good idea

Still, he has a spare bike in the backup vehicle
