Pedestrians and Pdallers?

Post by gar »

Since I do not use my feet at all to cycle at the moment and what I do to propel myself forward,is not defined properly in ANY English dictionary, I wonder whether half the problems between pedestrians and PEDALLERS, are not caused by the wrong classificiation of "Cyclists" ?

In the early days users of the self propelled wheel were not called "Pedallers" bcause it gave the same sound as "Peddlers" who went round hawking their wares from street to street.
The residual meaning is still there.

I handal my perambulator,( a machine just like any other pram) but I do not handle it except to lift it into my car for example or to clean it, or repair it, the same as any CTC member does.

I AM a Cyclist but only in the snese that other owners of prams are cyclists too!

I actually do take exception to the exclusive use of the word Cyclist by people who are in fact NOT Pedallers because of the pejorative similarword, but Pedallists or Pedallians.... but insist on calling themselves cyclists!

The dictionary has most certainly got it wrong in the example of handling and
handalling to the extent that grown men insist that I am using my feet, when I'm in fact using my hands.

Is it not likely then that most confusion between
Cyclists and pedestrians is also caused by the misuse of words.... and forgetting entirely that
both are using their feet!

How would a mother with a pram like it if somebody came along and told her to get off the path because she is a cyclist? She is one because she uses those wheels the same as I do.
Some of the prams are as large as my wheelchair!
