ok, this could complicate things but i could get used to it, does it lock the wheel imediately or gradually slow you down and the further back you pedal it eventually locks, if that makes sense? thanks for the info
Yes you can graduate the effort from just binding to locking the back wheel depending on how hard you back pedal. As I like to set off with my right leg I’d always to make sure that pedal was forward when I stopped.

I recreated it on my MTB with a spare brake lever (actually originally a bar-top interrupter lever for a drop bar bike, obviously in real life you'd use a normal lever flipped over)

It helps if said levers are either cable brakes or - if hydraulic - they use an inline reservoir rather than one mounted above.

Hope those pics explain it, this is what the set up I mentioned from that MTBer looked like.
