Thorn Cycles' mega-brochure has some tyre-pressure recommendations. See Page 40 of http://www.sjscycles.com/thornpdf/thorn ... ochure.pdf

As regards how to achieve the recommended pressures -- whatever they may be -- BrilliantBikes has published a video https://www.youtube.com/shorts/YQ_j0HyS ... ture=share which suggests a Bosch EasyPump. [A niggle with EasyPump is that its "default" is Schrader, so that to inflate via a Presta valve you have to first put an adapter (supplied) on the valve. Even so, I find it more satisfactory than a traditional "track-pump with analogue pressure-gauge".]

Disclaimer: I have no connection with Thorn, BrilliantBikes or Bosch, except as a customer.

Thanks for this thread, particularly the links to the tyre pressure calculators. The René Herse / Jan Heine background information is helpful. I have entered the values for myself and my wife and our bikes. I'm going to let some air out. The cobbles in Kaiserswerth will be less of a torture.

Lots of recommendations for experimentation upthread. And that can be done blinded...

I seem to recall that they are quite chunky, especially going towards the ferry

A suggested I did the check again.

My tyres would still explode as they are 45PSI max

You've put the width in wrong.
You said you have Continental Double Fighter tyres, yes?
26" wheels

Well the dimensions of that tyre are 26" x 1.9"
1.9" width is 48mm

If you put that in it suggests 32.5psi rear and 31.5psi front.
Hope that helps.

Yes, very chunky (picture link) through Kaiserswerther Markt down to the Rhein where you can catch a boat. The ferry to Langst is a little further up stream.

1 That's very helpful. Well done.

2 Now I don't have to find the problem! : - )

3 What a wonderful example of what can happen with mixed units. Time for us all to talk SI/ISO for wheels and tyres?
