And I was amongst them!

I have just (kinda inadvertently) done about 12 or 13 miles, all in absolutely perfect cycling weather.

Now it's chucking it down again!

This can be observed by a simple inspection of the grates from the roadside. If they have grass growing out, as some do, they have been neglected.

And what makes it worse tc, is that the local low-life have started removing/stealing the gratings to sell for scrap - my LBS proprietor came a cropper in one in Queensbury. Gulley blocked - big puddle in road - passing motorists putting him under pressure and feeling unable to by-pass the puddle - big dangerous hole in road - bike a write-off (well, both wheels and frame were). He's put in a claim from the council, but of course these low life strike when no-one is looking.

However, a well maintained gulley wouldn't have blocked up and puddled in the road, would it?

This wasn't Leeds of course, it was Bradford, but the low-life aren't selective - they'll do their thing anywhere - there seems to be a problem in the Dewsbury area at the moment, and spreading up towards Grange Moor. Thats both Kirklees and Wakefield - but they both seem to be on the case quicker and bung a traffic-cone into the offending open gulley.

Incidentally, the rain hasn't started again yet. Is this a record rain-free period?

I spoke to a chap yesterday who told me that summer this year was at half past two in the afternoon on June 15th - but he missed it - he went into a cafe for a cup of tea!

A local who keeps an eye on these things reckons the last decent run of bright weather was February.

Is that so? - my highest mileage month so far this year was April.

I try to get out every day that I can when I'm not going to get (what was the word?) wet through. So that puts April as the driest month - although that doesn't necessarily relate to brightness.

I went out this p.m. and got (what was the word?) wet through.

Is it my imagination, but I think that each month since April has been worse than the one before? - except up to Sepember, warmer.

Well a dry if overcast day down in Cheshire, 68 miles covered and Andrew and I finally completed the Cheshire BCQ card to be sent off with those we completed whilst on holiday,

Some flooded fields, but there is still a lot of crops in the fields unharvested...... I guess soon it will be too late to harvest it, more excuses (oops reasons) for rising food costs.
