Why don't you go on the CTC SUnday club runs?

Post by Wildduck »

For those amongst us who don't go on the main 'club run', can you please tell me why? I have my own reasons but I'm keen to hear other members reasons/experiences.

I do and don't.

Sometimes it just not fit in time wise.

Whilst I like to ride with a group of likeminded souls I do also enjoy the solitude of a solo ride.

Depends what I want out of a ride !!!!!!!

Because:

A) I'm a solitary rider. That is what I enjoy doing.

B) I'm not very good at being at a certain place at a certain time for the start. All my rides start at times that are remarkably convenient for me.

C) My rides have a much more convenient start place.

D) I'm not very good at sticking rigidly to the route. I know where I think I'm probably going to go, but very often I find that I've decided to go somewhere else instead.

E) The club ride is a bit quicker than I'd like.

F) They stop at the cafe instead of the pub.

Work on alt weekends, my son on the others, the local runs are not suitable for him.
Always used to ride with Cov section and still have done from time to time when I visit, but not so easy now that my mum is ill.

I went on 2 CTC runs. First was great, riding at speeds I could stay with happily, and not too hilly. The second, unfortunately was wanting to be faster than I was happy to go, much hillier, and as a result stopped going until I can keep up with the faster pace on hills.

I have no wish to be the reason why others are not riding at the speeds or roads they would want to.

I've been thinking about going out with the Hares & Tortoises (Romsey) but never get round to it, I've even met up with Viv Mackay when she was trying out a new ride, I think the main problem is I go for a ride when I feel like it, so I'm not tied down to a time and date

I've never gone on a CTC Sunday ride.

Cycling is my favourite and dominant means of transport, not a recreational pursuit.

I prefer my own company when riding, though I'm more than happy to 'join in' at a pub/tea stop. I'm very slow (average 10mph or lower) nowadays mainly due to a lung condition and hills are a bit of a problem for me (I know that the pace is geared to the slowest rider, I also know that I'd try to keep up so as not to slow others down and that would spoil the ride for me). I also tend to stop to look at things and take pics or wander off the route to explore, so I'm hardly group/club material :(

Hmmm! Sunday mornings are usually spent at MILs delivering shopping, laundry etc and catching up with the weekly moans  ... I don't think that I've been on (what I'd call) a decent ride this summer ... (no doubt my wife will be pointing out the number of times that I am out on the bike through the week  ). Not that I'm hen-pecked ...

I don't do the Sunday runs cos I'm normally worn out from the Saturday run.

That, and the fact that the Sunday run is a little slow for me - years ago we used to have a "Hard Rider's" A ride on a sunday but now only a B & C ride. A couple of us tried to reintroduce the A ride this year but lack of interest and then injuries put an end to it.

the Saturday ride I find better because it's only a morning ride so leaves time for doing all the other weekend things that I've been told to do. If I want more miles I just do a couple hours by my self before the Sat ride starts.

Don't like riding in a group - too much concentration needed as they always insist on bunching up for drafting. I'd much rather travel slowly and spend time looking at the view rather than the bum in front.

Also, the only time I've been on a CTC run (A Vets 100) I just got fed up off the smug attitudes and constant sneering at my bike (a hybrid). So I never went again.

Another reason is that the nearest group starts ten hilly main road miles away and I couldn't be buttocked.

My problem is too many hobbies and not enough weekends off.

Working weekends and my current rota means I average 3.5 weekends off every 6 weeks. So I need to juggle my time to get out with my local CTC group, my local non CTC club and still find time to get out and shoot arrows at my archery club. If only there were 6 weekends in a month!

I sometimes go out on the Sunday run, but feel guilty that I should be at my Rowing Club, where there's a river to be rowed up and down in the morning, and some Real Ale to be drunk in the afternoon.
