Freehub Bearing Replacement
Re: Freehub Bearing Replacement
I own, have used, and can endorse the type of ebay tool linked to above too. Much easier than trying to punch and drift it out.

thank you, presumably you did not notice that I made the earlier comment conditionally, on the basis of the OPsrogerzilla wrote: ↑20 Dec 2023, 9:25amBrucey wrote: ↑19 Dec 2023, 7:28pmwhich two cutouts do you mean? Any pics?rogerzilla wrote: ↑19 Dec 2023, 7:12pm There are tools on eBay that lock into the two cutouts and are secured by a long bolt right through the hub.
The cup has two cutouts for the dogs of a TL-FH40, a very rare and expensive tool. Alternative tools that do the job better come with a long bolt, washers and a wingnut to stop it slipping.
freehub being a campag one, or my later reply when I realised that you (and the OP), probably meant a shimano-style hub. IME all such tools suffer from the fact that the drive dogs are part of the thing and cannot be replaced. My tool design (which I came up with ten or more years ago) has no such disadvantage.

Re: Freehub Bearing Replacement
For £7.29 including postage, a bit of dog wear should be acceptable in a tool used once or twice per lifetime! A bike shop frequently overhauling freehubs, if any shops will touch such work, might want something better.
Re: Freehub Bearing Replacement
as I mentioned, I have used my tool hundreds of times and yes,I have had to replace worn drive dogs.
