Halfords servicing

Post by xerxes »

My local bike shop has closed, and the nearest alternative is a branch of Halfords. Does anyone have any good or bad experiences using them for servicing & repairs? (I appreciate that it is likely to vary from branch to branch).

Even from staff member to staff member. The problem is one of trust, if you know what you need and are able to check it's been done properly, then the chances are you'll also know how to do it yourself.
Where are you? It might be worth asking for recommendations. As LBS's have closed, there's a growing industry of service only businesses, someone may know of one local to you.

There's a lot in the archives, eg:

NB Club discount.

PS: When I need more than my skills can deliver I prefer a mobile bike mechanic.

as said above it varies, my local is ok and if im in a rush i will take it there as my lbs although i prefer to support is popular and busy.I do the vast majority myself and only stuff i need a specialist tool for one bike that doesnt get used often enough to warrant buying i take to the lbs
eg press fit BB on one bike , the summer ride that has only needed 1 BB in 6 years.
