The membership accounts went through some changes a fee years ago. I can't remeber the details but at one time the stuff I access was split across two sites and it's now together on one.
If anyone is having problems, email the membership dept, I've had reasonably quick responses the last couple of times I've needed too.
Did you read my second email? I keep separate logins.

Aren't both of those links to specific posts?

No It's not showing me a specific post just a window on the thread itself.

I think that the linked specific post is at the top of the returned page.

Confused. To clarify. You're saying they've never been linked but now are.

I'm pretty sure they operate from 2 different domains and I've always used two completely separate logins. That's not to say I couldn't have used my recent renewed membership to operate in the forums as well. Maybe when I get my access back I'll try that.

I'm sorry for your confusion, I specifically say in the post you quote that the forum and membership accounts have never been linked. I didn't think you were asking about the forum log in, but clearly others have, this thread confuses both.

What I can tell you about the membership account:
There was an old membership website
Then a new one
At one time both were active but fulfilling different functions
I can't remember when those changes took place, sometime in the last few years

How this may apply to you - If your account was set up on the old portal you may need to re register on the new. A registration for the old system won't work on the new. If you have any issue doing that, the best course of action would be to email membership support. Details and who to contact with issues are here

Thank you.
This thread has certainly been misunderstood, not the OP's fault, though they didn't seem to have understood that maanderx's similar issue wasn't very similar at all as it referred to the forum.

My forum login is quite old and indeed may be what I used when I was previously a paid up member a very very long time ago. I recently rejoined CTC or I should say CUK using a brand new login which up to now has functioned. From memory I've logged in maybe twice since coming back to the fold. Anyways I've sent the membership dept emails to find out what's going on. I just find it a bit worrying this kind of thing should happen less than a year into my membership. Anyway will report back when I know more :)

Defunct CTC websites with their own unique log-in, who'd a thought it?

My log-in still works.

One thing perhaps not specifically called out.

Using a different type of device, that is PC/tablet/phone gives you different underlying browser software.
In addition, if you use a tablet or phone over a mobile network (not on your home WiFi/LAN) then it will generally follow a completely different network route to the target web site which also helps in diagnosing problems.
