I am planning an autumn tour of Denmark, and am thinking of buying a "baggy" pair of trousers, rather than lycra longs.
The Endura Humvee and Altura Boulder pants are the sort of thing I have in mind (see link).

Does anyone have any reports on how comfortable/practical these are? Do they dry quickly if you wash them?
Any comments gratefully received.

cycling trousers
After trying all sorts of baggies with inserts I gave up because non of them did what I wanted on tour. Instead I wear my normal lycras underneath a pair of zip off trousers that can have two zips - they can then be full length for evenings, 3/4 for cooler days and shorts for the warmer ones and finally on the scorchers you can go back to lycra. You then only need to wash the lycras at night and the tousers less often.
I have been wearing Endura Zyme 3/4 shorts (the brown camo ones) for a year or two. I have to say you can't fault Endura for the value and quality, but there are problems in other areas.
The Zymes are very tough and don't show up grease. They also look great off the bike, but the material is very sweaty in warm conditions and not great when wet. Other Endura issues include sizing (the small is more like a medium) and over accessorising with pockets.
The lycras are brilliant tho., esp the 3/4 and full length bibs.
In fact, inspired by Dave Moulton's blog (and a fantastic pic of Fausto Coppi) I am really after a pair of plus twos! Real ones are cheap on eBay, or you can spend a fortune on Rapha ones at £120 a pop.

I wear a pair of Jrat climbing pants over my lycra shorts. They're made of a very lightweight microfibre and roll up into a bundle you can fit in a pocket. Being so lightweight they don't hold a great deal of water when wet and they dry quickly. Even when wet they go a long way to combat wind chill. Also, being so thin, they don't tend to ruck up noticeably, unlike other pants.
Jrat aren't being made any more but I suspect there'll be similar products available on the market. My only addition to these would be a pair of 'Rainlegs', I really must get some soon
