IME they always seize solid when exposed to our lovely weather. This (in my hands anyway) limits their use to summer bikes and some front wheels.rogerzilla wrote: ↑5 Feb 2024, 3:49pm Aluminium nipples....... nothing wrong with them if this is done.

I managed to photograph a nipple with spoke from the rim.
You can see that there is thread showing - the spoke is too short.
Also, I checked and the nipples are aluminium.
The shop's response was not great - "probably corrosion from road salt", "bike stored in the damp" - it's not and Al. doesn't corrode like steel. They have agreed to replace the nipples. I just need to make sure they replace the spokes with longer ones too.

errr, that looks very much like a spoke that is a bit too short sitting in a Ni plated brass nipple, surrounded by a piece of broken rim, to me.

Aren't we looking through the hole in the tyre-facing wall of the rim, looking down at the nipple? The rim is pretty mucky in the area of the hole.
The nipple seems to be sitting in a (single) eyelet, because the metal immediately around the nipple is a different colour.
Spoke is a bit short, I can't determine what metal the eyelet is made from, unless only brass nipples have a screwdriver slot.
Shop is being unhelpful, it seems.

Re: Breaking spokes on new e-bike - how many is too many?
The muck is from the adhesive rim tape. I was too cheap to buy proper stuff and so used some spare adhesive tape.
Wheels are back at the shop. I had to fight my way though.
Problem caused by corrosion - I don’t ride in salt
Caused by being left dirty - my bikes are always thoroughly cleaned
Caused by inadequate drying of the bike - bike lives in my centrally heated house
Caused by using the wrong cleaning product - I politely said they should just take the wheels and fix them.
