The BBC has reported a set of new Yorkshire cycle route has been created. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-y ... e-68204044

This website https://www.routeyc.co.uk/cycling gives the details. I think it should also be possible to link them up with the Yorkshire Wolds cycle routes to create a varied week of touring. https://www.sustrans.org.uk/find-other- ... ycle-route

Are those real signposted routes or just some gpx files? I can't tell.

Why would a nice cycling route be constrained by County boundaries? The only beneficiary I can see is the County Council (or local tourism board, I dunno).

We used to have an official county-based route, and it was pleasant enough, but what's the point? When they decided to stop maintaining the sign-posts, I for one didn't shed a tear.

The point is it's a good route across one more county than if you don't have it. It should avoid most Buck-passing at the boundary, with one authority that is obviously responsible.

That said, it might be better if National Highways had to maintain enough cycleways to make a national route network, as well as motorways and large carriageways. But for now, counties are the most reliable way.

Fair points.

It looks like this is the brainchild of the Yorkshire Coast Business Improvement District (a sort of Chamber of Commerce on steroids, funded by a surcharge on business rates), and it's yet another attempt to do a North Coast 500-type product with diminishing returns. I'd be very surprised if there are signs for these circular routes.

I suspect it will sink without trace, but who knows.

Thanks for sharing and for the links. The coastal routes are not my sort of thing, but look good for those who have gone down the gravel bike route.

Posting from my home in south Leeds, this might as well be on the dark side of the Moon, in terms of local knowledge but from what I've discovered from following links, this sounds right. It seems this organisation was formed in 2014 and will end later this year. It sounds as though there's unspent money so bike routes will be the answer.
