SKS Rennkompressor rod washer replacement, how?

I just bought a replacement rod washer for my SKS Rennkompressortrack pump but can't figure how to fit it. It's easy enough to remove the rod from inside the pump but there's a rubber cap on the end of the rod which needs to be removed to get the washer on and it is not obvious how to get this off.

I also can't find any instructions or YouTube videos on it. Help please!

Almost immediately after posting this I fitted it easily. The washer just pulls off over the rubber bung at the end of the rod and the the new slides back over it. It's really simple! I prised the old one off with a dining knife but I think it would just pop off if pulled hard enough.

Well done.

It's an interesting effect and often observed! I don't think that it has a name...

BITD, a lot of pro mechanics preferred silca track pumps, because they used a leather washer inside the pump. The Rennkompressor is a nice enough pump (I have one myself), but it is apparently possible to overheat the seal if you inflate the tyres on a whole team's worth of bikes at a time.

i have both a rennkompressor pump (a red one with a leather retaining strap for the handle) and a silca. the latter has a simple, push on chuck and is far easier to use than the SKS - the head of that is far too big and tends to flop out of line with the valve causing sealing issues. the pumping action itself is fine though.

IIRC the Rennkomprssor can come with four different chucks/adapters of which the only one that is any good (IMHO) has a Schrader chuck with a lever on it (which looks like it really belongs on a car footpump) and a screw-on adapter for presta, on a little chain. However, I now believe the best solution for most cyclists is to convert the lever-action chuck to presta, and to use this with a screw-on adaptor for schrader.
