Hi Colin - yes I believe the bolt on the bottom is the same on both sides. I think the head diameter should be just over 4mm.

If it is the correct bolt then it would be great if I could have it.

Are you able to measure it to be sure?

Will do!
James, head is about 6.1 mm…. It can’t be 4 mm if the thread is 3 mm, can it?
Threaded length is about 6.4 mm
PM me your address and I’ll stick it in the post

Most commonly that thread is M3x0.5mm, like I said.
You can easily tell if two screws have the same thread pitch; just hold them side-by-side. If the threads have the same pitch, they will 'mesh' perfectly with one another.

It is the wrong one then. The one I need is M2.5 and 5.2mm long with a just over 4mm head diameter.

Oh, OK… I just followed the SJSC link…..that’s different to what I’m looking at, which is an old Alivio or something like the ones Col. was looking at.

Different link in your first post, I think

Good luck with it, better not sneeze when you have something that small in front of you!

Thanks Colin! Yes once bitten twice shy.

I will be putting a large container underneath when I eventually fit it in case I drop it (again) - as you say the bolt really is tiny…

A possibility - buy M2.5 x 5mm cap head from Westfield fasteners. Head has 4mm diameter. https://www.westfieldfasteners.co.uk/A2 ... _M2.5.html

Second thought - I have several M2.5x12 cap head screws which you could cut down. If you really want a slot head then I have 25mm long. I also have a solitary nut which could be fitted before cutting to clean up the thread afterwards.

PM an address and I will put some in the post.

Thanks - do either have approximately just over a 4mm diameter head?

Thanks - I think the slotted head may give better grip when tightening? I will PM you.

suggestion; it isn't a bad idea to use something for scale in your photos eg another screw of known dims. or a sheet of graph paper or something, If the graph paper has mm squares marked out and the parallax error isn't too bad, this can be used to help measure things.

btw what exact model shifters do you have?

Thanks for the advice Brucey. The model number is SL-M360.

Just reporting back - cut a slotted M2.5 bolt down to sized and then filed it slightly. It worked perfectly!

I had a bucket hanging directly from the handlebars as a safety measure in case old butter fingers struck again. Thanks again.
