Help please 🙏 This is driving me mad

Post by TomoLlandudno »

During Covid I bought a Cube AMS race mtb, old but barely used 2014 model if I remember correctly. Anyway it developed a bloody annoying squeal on the front wheel. Couldn’t find the cause, had new disc pads even ended up getting the hub serviced at a local bike shop.
There’s something I don’t understand and wonder if this is causing my issue.
The through axle screws into a “nut” on the fork that has numbers around it. I can’t work out what these numbers are for and can’t find any info online. I’m guessing these must be to do with correctly tensioning the through axle somehow? They’ve clearly got a reason for being there but I don’t understand how they should be set. Is this why I keep getting this annoying slow speed squeak ?
I’ve liberally doused everything in silicone grease but the noise always returns.
Please, any advice is much appreciated.

Welcome

Please can you add some photos of the bike, the wheel and the axle. And those numbers.

Is it there all of the time and does it happen with the bike on a stand?

Do you think that it is anything to do with the brakes?

How much play is there between the wheel and the frame?

Jonathan

PS: I suggest that you change that Subject to something more descriptive. That might help to get the appropriate advice as quickly as possible. You can edit this in the first post.
