Field House campsite and coffee barn, Yorkshire Wolds (mile 137 of Way of the Roses)

Post by keyboardmonkey »

Field House campsite between Huggate and Tibthorpe on the Yorkshire Wolds. At around 137/170 miles from Morecambe on the Way of the Roses I suppose it would suit campers doing the ride over three days west to east with the last day being a bit shorter to allow for taking the train home from Bridlington, say. https://www.fieldhousecamping.co.uk/

The farm gates exit directly on to the Way of the Roses. At the time of writing the price for a cyclist with a tent is £10 per night. It's about three miles from the Wolds Inn, Huggate, which is one of the highest villages on the Wolds. Nice grub - roll down the hill afterwards...

The campsite has solar-powered showers, eco toilets and - since last September - a rather large 'coffee barn' that is particularly cyclist friendly. As well as indoor and outdoor bike racks there is a trail head tool station (I haven't tested the pump).

I should declare that I put together some cycling-friendly material, info etc for the owners, but I am not connected to the site.

[Edit: there is now solar-powered hookup in a separate section for those that need it]

For those looking for a base to pitchup to cycle in and around the Yorkshire Wolds there a several route suggestions with Garmin/Strava routes here:

Please forgive me if I should have posted this elsewhere, but just wondered if you were still updating the England index post. Thought this place on the Way of the Roses might be worthy of inclusion. Cheers.

There’s now a small cycle hire/repair shop inside the cafe, although this development is closed on Sundays.

The bloke tinkering with a bike mentioned this. I think it’s being trialled. A bit cosy for two, but if you like to spend a night under canvas without the bother of lugging a tent about it looks interesting. Don’t know about the price, though.
