Hi Gar

I'm afraid mine is a modest 3000 miles since may when I started cycling after a long lay off. Next year I am hoping to top 10,000 as I am doing LeJog and a couple of other longer rides.

New tyres - they mean nothing. It's when you write off wheels that it gets expensive. I have had 8 on my bike throughout the year. First 2 came on the bike so had had some wear and needed changing before the tour in April. Wrote off botjh the handbuilt replacements on the tour so came back with some non-matching and heavy but tough ones bought along the way. The front one got replaced when I added a dynamo hub and the rear was never very nice and was getting well worn so I replaced it last week. About 10000m left till I have to have any more rims I think!

It's inners that I always replace if they go.
If something lets you down you've got to
haven't you?

Regarding 8 tyres presumably over 15,000 miles
Andy has been using these very very thin racers
to keep going really fast. There is almost nothing to them.

My narrowest tyres I've used are 28mm. There's a reasonable amount to them. I think most racers use 23mm but 28mm are already a bit skitty sometimes (especially in Wales.)
I now have mavic open pro rims so I'm restricted to that as my maximum size.

I've got the thinnest racers I have ever had on this recumbent perambulator; been using them for 9 months with a touch of slime, and off road for a little every day too.

according to my comp.when I got off this mornings ride 8365 miles, with 2 weeks to go.I am lucky to be retired and ride 5/6 times a week, mostly alone except on Thursdays when I ride with a group of up to 15 others, and Sunday clubruns.
I change chains, brake blocks etc often and suffer few punctures(2 this year, both last week)on Michelin 23m pro race.

2 P**ct*res in nearly 9000m!
You jammy dodger :-)
That said, nothin penetrated my tyres from the outside all through my 6000m tour. I just had or 5 valves fail and a blowout :-)

The day after I got back I ran over a drawing pin!

pinch punctures, that's what i used to suffer from mostly, not as much since i went to full sus. and i've got huge tyres on my hard tail, 2.35's in fact.

I went through Trondheim on the way home from North Cape. Guess what - it rained when I there! I think I could count the number of totally dry days out of over a month in Norway on one hand.

Some great mileages on here - well done. Mine may be highest but it's through being mad and having time to spare. I should be able to keep the miles up at a good 10000 a year while at uni, at least for my first 2 years, but it may drop off after that when I have mor other stuff to do.
