Shimano freehub fixing bolt

Post by SimonCelsa »

The fixing bolt on the freehub fitted to my Shimano Ultegra FH-6700 rear hub is knackered. The small flange which secures the freehub has split around half the circumference. It takes a 10mm allen key. The rear hub is fitted with 8 speed cassette.

Does anyone have any idea whether a replacement bolt is available, or would I have to purchase the entire freehub.

I've had a look at the offerings from SJS cycles / eBay but it's a bit like looking for a new derailleur hanger, not too sure how to establish the compatibilities,

This is a stock image of what I'm looking for, any ideas how to ascertain what I need, thanks for any advice:

they are pretty much all the same provided you have a 10 mm axle. IIRC these bolts are also susceptible to being welded, so there is probably no need for a new one anyway; just build up the broken edge with weldment, and remachine, eg. using the SG method.

Thanks for the reply Brucey, if I've ever needed anything welded I've always given the item to a Filipino fitter aboard ship. Unfortunately I left the sea a few years ago and my welding skills are pretty non existant.

I'll just try for a standard 10mm bolt which, if it doesn't fit maybe I'll just glue the cassette onto the freehub with some good epoxy resin!!

I would enquire at your LBS to see if you can either have or buy cheaply a scrap Shimano wheel to harvest that part.

The bolt is item 11, part number Y-359 04000 on the EV for the Ultegra freehub FH-6700
https://si.shimano.com/en/pdfs/ev/FH-67 ... 0-2932.pdf

According to the SJS website this should be compatible.
https://www.sjscycles.co.uk/hub-spares/ ... y3bl03000/

Ultegra isn't listed but the bolt from a Tiagra FH-4400 hub is given as a "B" match, and that uses a Y-359 04000 bolt:

Thanks very much Sum for that detective work, I had actually found the part number but coudn't correlate that with any of the offerings from SJS. Hopefully the part you linked should be good, if not then it hasn't broken the bank!!

Cheers
