Hi all,
Short of dismantling it - can anyone tell me if this hub is cartridge or loose ball bearings? The only markings on it is the brand name of “Quando”.
Cheers
Jim

Loose bearings 90% sure - cartridge ones rarely if ever have a rubber dustcover.

Thanks!
IIRC they also badge their sealed bearing hubs as such. Big players, I was surprised to find when I wrangled a pair on my daughter's bike, because I'd not come across them before.

Has anyone had experience servicing Quando hubs? I have heard they are a bit tricky compared to say Shimano cup and cone hubs?

some quando hubs use metal dustcaps, captive on the cones. This arrangement is great for cleaning, but it does tend to let water into (and lube out of) the hub.

Thanks Brucey - this video seems to suggest the process is the same as any other cup and cone.

OEM hubs - big manufacturer.
The bottom end stuff is pretty basic, the better hubs are the equal of much of the Shimano mid-range kit. But other than that, standard cup-and-cone servicing.

Just made an interesting discovery that the front hub has 9 1/4 inch loose ball bearings on each side.
One side has dull ball bearings so definitely will need replacing so will do both sides while I am at it.
What grade ball bearings do people tend to use in their hubs?

Well if this prompts you to look at the rear hub my Quando hub had 9x1/4 balls on the non drive side and 10 x 7/32 balls on the freehub side.

yes inexpensive front hubs are now built more like rear hubs inside because only disc brakes impose a load on the bearings that is many times normal. The balls on the left side are usually the first to show signs of distress.
I would advise that you use the best balls and grease that you can afford.

Yes - I found the disc side bearings dull whereas the other side were still shiny!
