A shortcut has to be a challenge, otherwise it would just be the way. No situation is so dire that panic cannot make it worse.

But this is waterproof and lockable .
I would suggest that a drumming noise is from sloppy upkeep.

The back box on my rapto was always nicer than the bags I had elsewhere, though it wasn't large enough for a laptop.
Never had any drumming, which could also be seriously reduced by simply applying some cork or lightweight foam internally.
