No wonder it sounds and feels off…

A shortcut has to be a challenge, otherwise it would just be the way. No situation is so dire that panic cannot make it worse.

Terra cycle idler set arrived today.

Expensive, but looks good. Had to use the rear clamp, since my casting doesn’t have enough space between the bolt hole and the seat mount for the slightly larger idlers. That’s where my previous attempt ended poorly as well.

The chain is now rerouted between the seat mount and the seat on the return (since the rear idler is actually one piece, not two separate idlers, so it has to be an over/under arrangement.

Having rollers in the garage means I can at least pedal through the gears with a camera on the chain…

Hopefully it will run smoothly, there is still some chain related vibration somewhere, I suspect the rear derailleur needs servicing/replacing. It’s seen a few issues over the last year or two.

Which T-Cycle idlers did you get? Sport(Plus) of Elite?

I think I need some new ones (for ICE) and I have a set of new ICE std ones but have been thinking about the T-Cycle ones. My impression is rear one takes little wear (very little change of chain angle) so very uncertain whether to go 1 T-cycle sport (front) or 2 x t-cycle sport (front & rear) or if it's worth going for the Elite but as you say, gets expensive. Or just use the ICE standard versions.

Not having any issues with the original ones but after 10k miles parts are beginning to wear (eg stearing rods, headset bearings) and on tour failures can become a nightmare (as I discovered when my Rohloff shifter broke!).

Oof, at least the rolhoff will stay in the gear you’ve put it in (and you can change it manually at the rear).

I didn’t go elite, and they’ve just handled a 15 mile loop very nicely.
