I'm wondering if Philip got out of the wrong side of the bed this morning?
It's always possible to request a clearer picture of something. Some Android phones produce the problem that a photo orientated fine on the phone comes out rotated 90° on the forum.
Agree with PH - what is this topic doing on the bike technical section?

Why can't posters on here take and post decent photographs of their bikes?

Post by Jdsk »

There seem to be two rather different topics here:

Uploading or linking to photos on this forum:
There are rotation/orientation and size and format issues. There are also solutions. Please just ask for help, and include the device of choice and its operating system.

Quality of photos:
As simonineaston has observed it helps enormously to make the effort to learn what's possible on your own "camera". Not necessarily everything but there are big returns on the first steps. And then seek criticism. And again a few basics can make a big improvement. It would be nice if this could be done on this forum, especially when it's about bikes, but unfortunately I'd expect it to fail because there's so much unpleasant behaviour. Still worth trying?

One possible remedy is to open pictures in Windows Photo Viewer*, which will then show the pic in its true orientation. At the bottom of the window there are a couple of rotation buttons, and if you turn the pic the right way up the viewer will store the correct orientation in the JPEG.

It would of course be preferable to resize pics before uploading them. You could probably get an app for that and do it on the phone.

* That is, the viewer supplied with Windows 7. Having been an IT professional since before computers, with a few exceptions, had monitors, I decided to avoid later versions.

No need the forum software automatically resizes your image when it's attached.

Perhaps this is the reason some people who use this forum to sell items and do not upload
photos of the items they want to sell?
