My experience is there's far more to bags than the technical specification. I had a 20+ year break from camping, something changed in that time and I could no longer sleep comfortably in the mummy style bag I'd used before. I went through three bags in four years - mummy, stretch mummy, tapered rectangle, before trying and settling on a quilt, which I'm still using 18 years later.
So my advice would be not to spend too much money. You can always add warmth to a cheaper bag, and upgrade when you know what suits you. There's a good choice of sub £50 bags at Go Outdoors and I expect from other retailers too.

Thanks again everyone for all of your help

In the end I settled for a Carinthia defence 1. I think I managed to get it for a good deal for €120 so it was only about €40 more expensive than a similar rated bag from Decathlon. I'm going to pair it with a silk liner from Decathlon just to keep it clean plus silk feels nice, they do offer two choices of fleece liners one in green, which has a zip on the left-hand side and another in black with a 3/4 length zip in the centre that only goes part way down. However, each were an additional €75 so for now I think I will opt for just the silk liner and look to see if I can get the fleece liner from a military surplus store instead.

Obviously a fleece liner will uprate your bag's warmth, but it's not a particularly weight/bulk efficient way to do it. Fleece has various advantages over hollow fibre in active use but as purely insulation it's less effective, which is why nobody much is making sleeping bags out of fleece.
Rather than buy a fleece liner I'd just use the silk one and wear some extra clothes (possibly fleece ones) as PJs, and you'll have those as spare clothes in any case and they'll be good for cooler camping temperatures before you go to bed too.

I'd note that a comfort limit of 4 is not that effective outside of summer (which isn't an issue if that's when you'll be using it). If you plan on more general 3-season use I'd look at a bag with more filling rather than adding liners.

This worked really well for me this summer so much so I looked forward to getting in it each evening during a cycle camping fortnight where it rained and was cold most days.

It's cotton lined so it feels like my own bed at home, warm and it's rectangular so plenty of room to flap about in.

One downside is it's bulky 44 x 28cm packed and 2.24kg but I value my sleep while on holiday so it'll be coming with me next year as well.
