TdF Femmes

Post by pjclinch »

A good race from start to finish, and what a finish!

DV must be feeling dreadful, but she put in an incredible ride. Deva vu all over again from the Vuelta waiting to see if she'd beaten AvV...

Yes, Demi attacked over the top of the Glandon and had about a minute lead at the bottom of Alpe d’Huez. She was with Paulina Roijakkers. I kept expecting Demi to attack and go alone on the Alpe but she didn’t. The gap to Niewiadoma was around a minute all the way up the Alpe. In the end Niewiadoma hung onto the overall lead by 4 seconds.

I think Demi’s crash and the injuries sustained were having an effect on her.

Amazing final stage. Coming down to a few seconds makes a pleasant change from Pogacar blitzing everything by minutes!

The TdF Femmes was a lot more interesting than the Pog procession in the men’s race. His multi talents are awesome but there were no real challenges after the first week. The women’s contest had variety, trauma and triumphs. Surely that’s what racing is about. On a more contentious note, the length of the races might have a lot to do with it. 8 stages compressed a lot more in than the 21 stages. Less of boredom??

Your wish might be granted. Can't help suspecting that things like the two stage day were ASO (owners of TdF) experimenting with formats that they might then use on the men's tour.

I loved that race and the last day was an epic up there with anything I’ve seen in Men’s cycling. For me the format was a bit short, it worked ok for the GC but really based on two days and the other jerseys never really had chance to develop. A more condensed TdF is possible but the balances between types of stage would need careful attention. Personally I don’t watch TT and only the last 5km of sprint stages.
