In an effort to get fit again and having gotten too bored of running after 5 years to keep doing that, I've bought a new road bike. I did get a MTB 5 or 6 years ago, so didn't think I'd be so out of date, but slightly disconcerted to find...
- disc brakes on road bikes!!
- thru axles on road bikes!
- uci stickers!
- hidden cables!
- super chunky frames on road bikes
- wide tyres are actually faster?? I mean I really wasn't expecting that
- 2024 mid priced carbon roadbike (bianchi infinito xe 59) heavier than my 2004 mid priced roadbike (Cannondale r2000 61)
-specialised don't seem to do road bike shoes that can house spd any more. You can buy the cool various coloured road bike shoes OR black MTB shoes. Well at my local specialized concept store at least.
- 'Reach', 'Stack Size' or maybe I missed these in 2004 cause I could just walk into an Evans cycles and they'd recommend the frame size
- £10k bikes!!
But very much preferring the comfort and upgrade braking on my new bike!
Anything I missed?

You’ve forgotten e-bikes and gravel bikes.
And to go with the latter we have gravel clothing.

Re: 2004 Vs 2024 road bike
Glad you like the new bike.
You missed that a lot of the changes are optional. If you'd wanted an aluminium, rim braked, narrow tyre Cannondale road bike, they're still available, Though they fill a smaller segment of the range which reflects demand.
If you compared your 2004 bike to a 1984 bike, would there have been a similar list?
Re: 2004 Vs 2024 road bike
Good question. Not quite old enough to have had a mid range bike in '84, but maybe 9 speed, spd pedals, brake gear levers? And frames in '04 probably bigger than '84!

Yep tubeless, missed that. Gravel clothing
