BCM Carbon: Loose Bottom bracket

Post by rachitskiy »

Hi guys,

I see that this forum is quite active, wanted to ask your opinion: my mechanic found that the bottom bracket sleeve is loose on my BMC Race machine rm01. The total job at local carbon shop would run more than $1k, I can't afford it and it's too much for this old bike (though very much loved one : ) ).

Here is the video:

Any suggestions ? How non rideable is it ? What can I do for less money ?

Thanks,

Anton

Can you show a photo of the other side of the BB.?

After removing cranks and bearings and cleaning the sleeve and BB shell, you could try running something like Loctite 609 bearing mount into the gap. Whether it works or not will depend on whether grease etc have already worked their way in there, and I'm not sure if Loctite primer is needed between CF and aluminium.

Is there any warranty still active from the original purchase?

Totally ingenious!!!
Well worth a go to save a fantastic frame from becoming landfill.
