Neither where I live. They both dump all the stuff in the in the "display" coffin meaning that any cards relating to the products and price are useless and there is stuff in there that has no cards so if you might want to buy it you have to take it to the till to get a price.

I've bought cycling bits and tools and fasteners and workshop clothes from both. Only one has ever been unfit for purpose.
There's discussion in the archives about their cycling toolsets and work stands.
Recommended.

Lidl seems to have best range of cordless tools, which are generally very good value.

I think the only truly good Aldi purchase I have made was a GArmin GPS 25 for really cheap. It played up so I took it back and got myh money back no quibbles. I than saw another one on sale for something like £30 or even less. Basically their special sales go half price to clear then after a few months. Or if they find one in the warehouse for the store after the sale has cleared from the centre aisle. They sell some things off for a loss or perhaps breakeven.
In this case the cheapest Garmin 25 I could find online was about £100 and I got it for £30!! Aldi's best centre aisle bargain I reckon. Certainly better than their cheapo own brand stuff.

I don't know about best, but I think Aldi are first with the Christmas stuff, some has already appeared in my local, it's not even October yet! I notice Aldi have started doing a food center aisle, something Lidl have always done, I'm more likely to buy food stuff than anything else. I don't mind impulse buying food, particularly if it's something I haven't tried before, but I like my other purchases to be more considered.

Re: Aldi or Lidl - who has the best centre aisle?
We visited Berlin this summer, first time we have been to Germany. We had to get some supplies so were intrigued to check out Lidl, and Aldi and how they compared to back home (pretty sad thing to get excited about i admit).
I didn't think they were as well supplied or as "pleasant" as the ones in the UK - but maybe because these were small busy, inner-city stores rather than the sprawling suburban ones I'm used to.
Biggest culture shocks were the huge shelf of loose packs of cigarettes by the till in Lidl, and finding out there are actually two Aldi's, Aldi Nord and Aldi Sud, (we get Aldi Sud in the UK) so we went into a Aldi Nord- which disappointingly wasn't that different! Also Staff in the UK are alot more pleasant - always get a nice greeting at the checkout at home, in Berlin not even an acknowledgement or smile.

Cigarettes also sold in Aldi Nord, it's the issue that the two brothers who owned Aldi disagreed on and caused there to be two businesses.deeferdonk wrote: 26 Sep 2024, 10:35am Biggest culture shocks were the huge shelf of loose packs of cigarettes by the till in Lidl, and finding out there are actually two Aldi's, Aldi Nord and Aldi Sud,

Was on the way to Currys this morning to see about buying a powerbank for the youngest daughter's ipad and other electronic bits when we go out camping or whatever. I was a bit early so popped into Lidl for some milk and saw this:
20,000 mAh for £15.............bargain, or will it explode and burn the house down!!
3 year guarantee so will give it a punt, doubtful it will be used that much.

I'd expect that to work fine.SimonCelsa wrote: 12 Jun 2025, 10:52am Was on the way to Currys this morning to see about buying a powerbank for the youngest daughter's ipad and other electronic bits when we go out camping or whatever. I was a bit early so popped into Lidl for some milk and saw this:

I use an 18,000 mA hr pack when touring. If I'd known how well it does the job then I probably wouldn't have bought and fitted USB charging off the dynamo: details in the archives.
Does it include a torch? If it does then you can avoid another object.

Those of us 'in the know' always shop in Harrods - any aisle will do.

Do they sell cycling tights that seem to fit OK at first, but “ride down” with wear, and have pad-stitching which gradually gets tighter with each wash, resulting in chafing in the places where you really don’t want to be chafed?
You see, I got some like that is Aldi/Lidl, and it would be nice never to buy any like them again.

Until they update the battery connection which renders existing tools for scrap when replacement batteries aren't available.VinceLedge wrote: 25 Sep 2024, 9:04am Lidl seems to have best range of cordless tools, which are generally very good value.
Will never buy a cordless tool from them again.
