Sram Rival B screw washer

Post by Phrilly »

Hi,
Can anyone confirm whether I have the B screw washer in the right place on this picture Image. It's not possible with the current set up to get the distance between the jockey wheel and the outer cog to anything closer than 15mm and I was thinking maybe I have attached this incorrectly. The B screw washer will rotate freely anti-clockwise, only the B screw forces to retain in place.
Thanks in advance
Phil

Looks like that B screw needs to be screwed in a lot further to butt against the protrusion. For Shimano mechs the B screw is usually set so when back pedalling in bottom gear (biggest sprocket) the jockey wheel just clears the sprocket.
I would expect SRAM mechs to work on the same principle.

Sram recommend a 6mm clearance between the teeth of the largest cassette sprocket and the top jockey wheel.

Yes I agree I would have thought it needed screwing in, but if I do the gap between the jockey wheel and the large cog gets even bigger. This is what makes me think the b washer is on wrong. Any thoughts?
Thanks again

I’m nowhere near a bike; but the tab is against the mech hanger stop and the B screw is against its stop.
Unless there’s a wrong part ( hanger or washer) I can’t see what else you can do.

It's the 10 speed cassette (12/25) that it came with. Image

It's an MTB derailleur designed for up to 36T with a large cage or 34T with a medium. Maybe the issue is that a 25T cassette is a bit on the small side for that derailleur.
If it shifts ok then I wouldn't worry and you can fit a bigger cassette in the future.

A quick calculation suggests that a 34T sprocket will be ~18mm closer to the upper jockey wheel than the current 25T. That fits nicely with SRAM's guidance on setting the b-screw, you'd need to screw it in somewhat to clear that cassette.

If your bolt is too short and you don't have a longer one available cut a slot in the bottom and insert it from the other side. This gives you an extra 5 mm from the bolt head and the slot enables you to adjust it with a screwdriver.
