Well, there are different values of reasonably! I have two Spectro's, one from about 2000 and another bought much later but NOS. They have slightly different shape clickboxes and shifters but they're interchangeable. My experience of them clearly doesn't go back far enough but now you mention it I seem to recall earlier versions had a narrower gear range so you're right it's an assumption too far Let's hope the OP can get it going again. I'd agree the shift mechanism is complex and looks fragile but it's reliably served me for more than 20 years.Brucey wrote: ↑30 Sep 2024, 2:09pmthink again, there are at least two different versions, with sightly different internal ratios. It may be possible to swap shifters about though. FWIW I started work on my conversion long before SRAM stopped making spares; that gives you some idea of just how hopeless I think the usual arrangement is.
Sachs spectro S7 gearhub shifter

Re: Sachs spectro S7 gearhub shifter
the hub internals are quite good, better than SA's 7s hub at any rate. However, the shifting arrangements are pretty diabolical IMHO. They are so poor that they are a common reason for such a hub to be scrapped. Before now, I have likened them to having a light switch in the next room, to be operated using a snooker cue through a hole in the wall.

Re: Sachs spectro S7 gearhub shifter
According to Olaf K on this forum in German, the old Super 7 (forerunner of S7) had a thumb shifter with a solid cable and it was not possible to change the cable: the shifter, box and cable are a unit. He also says that a new twist grip and new matching clickbox will work as the hub internals are compatible. Mixing clickbox and shifter doesn't work. Another poster confirms this.
Further down the page is a picture of the same clickbox as here and the missing thumb shifter. The word "Super" above the "7" is clear in both pictures.
Before you buy the bits test that the hub works by fiddling with the rod and sleeve.

I am NOT a cyclist. I enjoy riding a bike for utility, commuting, fitness and touring on tout terrain Rohloff, Brompton ML3 (2004) and Wester Ross 354 plus a Burley Travoy trailer.
Re: Sachs spectro S7 gearhub shifter
Thanks for that.
Yes for some reason I had it in my head that the shifter for this hub was the trigger type, similar to the old SA.
I have the hub totally stripped down, the condition overall is good, and I have new shift pins, I got a set from holland for just a few Ukp.
The Pull must be the same across the hubs then, maybe sachs realised a solid shift wire isnt the way to go and used a bowden cable with a spring in the clickbox.
