Hey, so my son's MTB has started making a weird noise from his rear disc.
He thought it might be the pads so he bought some new ones, but the noise is still the same.
The disc visually looks fine to me, totally clean, no marks. Also seems not to be buckled when I give it a spin.
Any clues? Just don't want to go buying a new disc for it to be something else.

Any idea what this noise is from brakes?
Re: Any idea what this noise is from brakes?
Sounds mechanical like something catching. Has he adjusted/cleaned/removed anything before he decided to change the pads?
Take some photos to show the alignment of everything, please, including the pad/disc from the side and from above

Welcome
Does it make it when the bike is on a stand?

Is the brake cable/hose rubbing on the spokes?

I think the pads are catching on the disc web (the arms connecting the braking surface to the centre where the bolts are).
Either the pads are wrong, not properly installed or the diameter of the disc does not match the adaptor between the frame and the calliper.

The older I get the more I’m inclined to act my shoe size, not my age.

sounds spokey
Re: Any idea what this noise is from brakes?
Pad(s) rubbing on the disc. If the brake was off in the video, the disc is out of true (so rubs at some poits mite than others).

Caliper not parallel with the pads?
It sounds like the brake pad is angled and the corner is catching on the holes in the rotor.

We'll always be together, together on electric bikes.
Re: Any idea what this noise is from brakes?
the noise (which is quite distinctive btw) sounds to me like there is something making contact with the NDS spokes.
