I've tried washing and rewaxing these plastic
raincoats/sou'wester/gotretex/breathable/ whatever
but oil can be very difficult indeed to remove. Has anybody got any secrets he is prepared to share?
How to get Oil off clothing?

Re:How to get Oil off clothing?
I believe Swarfega was developed to keep nylons clean from the grease produced by the sebaceous glands of the hair follicles on ladies legs. It was then found to have wider applications in removing oil and grease generally. It must be applied as instructed, only using water to wash out after the Swarfega has done its extraction job. Worth trying anyway.

Another recommendation for Swarfega. My wife keeps a large tub in the kitchen just to get oil out of my clothes.

Re:How to get Oil off clothing?
I've always used clean oil instead and found it worked. But with deep oil in plastics/sou wester etc it does not, so perhaps Swarfega might get it out.
It is a pity to buy new Kagbags for £15 when it is only dirty.

There is a product called 'Valet' or 'Vallay' (play on words!) available from car accessory shops. It's marketed as an upholstery cleaning foam but in practice gets everything of everything!
We used to use it in one of our antique restoration businesses to get any brown wax off of upholstery materials - should we ever have a little problem!
Trust me - it really works!
regards, Braz.

Swarfega worked for me, getting oil off clothes.
I find that for hand washing, equal splodges of Fairy Liquid and liquid hand soap mixed together have good effect.

For one of the best degreasing agents that is relatively environmentally friendly try margerine or lard. Rub it in like swarfega & then wash off in soapy water.
Really good for cleaning hands covered with old chain oil. Always have some in the fridge for cleaning as wouldn't actually want to eat eat the ghastly stuff.
