Schwalbe Road Cruiser Tyres. Slime Tyre Liners.

Post by foxychick »

Any feedback from users on the road cruiser tyres in the 700C X 40MM size with regard to puncture resistance against hawthorns, do not want the marathons as they are twice the price. Also any feedback from users on slime tyre liners or something similar cheers.

Pretty difficult to stop hawthorn getting through a tyre, so I'd probably think about running slime (or similar) inside the tube to fix the small holes as they are freed up if such fairy visits were common.
A shortcut has to be a challenge, otherwise it would just be the way. No situation is so dire that panic cannot make it worse.

I've always wondered does slime go in the tube or tyre? If tube is that the tube knackered if it does go down?

No point in 'sliming' tyres with tubes, the gunk won't readily flow , but gunk the tube where it could.
In my opinion a slime gunked tube is not repairable.....if the gunk doesn't work.

The gunk goes in the inner tube, and when a thorn, or drawing pin, get pulled out of the tyre it is forced into the small hole and seals it pretty quickly.

It's a while since I've used it, but it did work for this specific style of fairy.

If the tube splits then it's messy and nasty, but it basically won't go down from this style of penetration.

There is separate versions of Slime for tubes and tubeless. We’ve regularly used Slime in the tubes of our g’kids bikes to cope with the thorns in their city. It made a huge difference to the kid’s ability to keep riding.

For larger holes, tubes are still patchable - just clean around the hole with water.

Worth considering.

Thanks very much -- I'll give that a go -- I use a lot of off road tracks on my 15 mile commute to work and there's a lot of hedges being cut at the moment, must be the time of year for it although I think it's a bit late because of the terribly wet summer this year.
