Parking Brake

Post by ONETAL »

Happy Holidays to everyone.
I'm going to fit a parking brake to my ICE VTX. What adapter mount thingermejig do I need?. I know it's IS but is it a rear or a front, I would guess that it would be a rear but thought I'd ask before I order one.

I’ve no right to comment on hpvs - I’ve never ridden anything but straightforward bicycles - but small wheelers do tend to wheel-flop and so a parking brake has always been a must have for me. See mine, pictured, stowed and in use…

ICE used to do a rear brake - either V or disc
With a friction gear lever as a handle.

They now do Velcro straps as one option.
A shortcut has to be a challenge, otherwise it would just be the way. No situation is so dire that panic cannot make it worse.
There are two kinds of people in this world: those can extrapolate from incomplete data.

When you have hydraulic discs you only need an elastic band with you.
I am here. Where are you?

Thanks Chap's the plan is to use a dropper seat post lever with one of the disc calippers I've got spare. I have been using a Velcro strap but my hands don't work very well so find it a bit of a clart with that so I think the lever and rear calipper is the way to go.

Used to have a original Peter Ross 'Trice', which had a cantilever caliper, With a detent button on the lever to hold it in ,never really worked well, sometimes would use it as a drag brake , but it isn't very could idea, vorca lever with a detention fitted to the front brakes, the braking was a bit hit and miss, as it was a dual lever on the separate front drums, hard to balance them, I eventually did away with the rear park brake and fitted separate levers for the Drum brakes.
The AZUB I have now as fittings for a disc rear park brake, but deliberately asked not to be fitted ,I just use a velcro strap around the brake lever, it's a watch strap, works just fine , but if your hands are arthritic ,it's a faff, the AZUB also has a detent button ,but again not effective as it needs slack in the lever to lock, I like my brakes very tight, as I like a touch of ' tank' steer around bends and cornerswhat fun !

Simple wooden wedge to slip into the brake lever when pulled works well. I've seen a single wedge from a clothes peg pressed into service and carried by a loop of string near the brake lever so it's always available when needed.

I've used a loop of rubber cut from an old inner tube as mentioned by Cowsham on my V brakes. :D

The ICE lever is not a custom part. Might be a Sturmey Archer one. Take a look on SJS

Thanks for all the suggestions for a lever I've ordered one of these.

My tourer has that. A Rubber wedge, stowed in rubber bands on my mirror stalk when not in use

Here is my custom parking brake

Here it is on a drop bar bike, but will work with any brake lever. Loop elastic round brake lever & bar, pull elastic tight, slide toggle to lock.
