Nicer...

Here is author Oliver Kornetzke on Trump:

«Behold. The festering carcass of American rot shoved into an ill-fitting suit: the sleaze of a conman, the cowardice of a draft dodger, the gluttony of a parasite, the racism of a Klansman, the sexism of a back-alley creep, the ignorance of a bar-stool drunk, and the greed of a hedge-fund ghoul—all spray-painted orange and paraded like a prize hog at a county fair. Not a president. Not even a man. Just the diseased distillation of everything this country swears it isn’t but has always been—arrogance dressed up as exceptionalism, stupidity passed off as common sense, cruelty sold as toughness, greed exalted as ambition, and corruption worshiped like gospel. It is America’s shadow made flesh, a rotting pumpkin idol proving that when a nation kneels before money, power, and spite, it doesn’t just lose its soul—it shits out this bloated obscenity and calls it a leader.»

It does tend to describe the dominant parts of the USA, as well as the fact that such a rot has been part of that rather artificial nation since it began. But don't dismiss every person within that culture as a Trumper (or as the Democratic Party equivalent, serving the directives and brainwashing of a different set of oligarchs). The USA does contain an awful lot of people who tend to be rather more thoughtful, tolerant and generally individualist than what we see of those wearing MAGA hats.

The same is true of every totalitarian nation - there are millions who would rather be citizens than subjects; millions who do crave the sort of freedom we take for granted (and may be in the process of losing too).

***************
If Farrago succeeds, who will become his true subject and who will harbour longing and associated behaviours for a return to what we lost .... or even better, in terms of a free and fair society? As we've seen with Trumpit, many former critics will succumb to his "charms" rather than suffer being made outcast, enemy then expelled or dead.

Sadly insufficient numbers of those people stood up to be counted in late 2024, so understandably the tar-laden brush painted a very wide stripe.

In what way could they employ their votes in that election to "stand up and be counted"? The only choice was the Bloo Klowns or the Reddd Klowns, as usual. Are you suggesting a revolution or insurrection perhaps? That seems unlikely to end well.

One might suppose that a Democrat would've been better than the ultra-loon but, face it, they too have been doing nasty stuff in the world and within the USA for decades too. Not quite as nasty at Trumpit but it all seems to be leading to the same place - cowsers & injuns but with nuclear weapons rather than sixguns and bows & arrers.

In practice any American now agin' the usual suspects must either lump it or emigrate. Most can't practically emigrate so there'll be a lot lumpin' it. What should they do, d'ye think? If I was a US denizen unimpressed with the "politics" I'm sure I wouldn't know how to change or escape the kraziness.

Is this written in Welsh? I do admire incomers who learn the local lingo!

Shirly sum mushtyke - any fool can see it's writ in Cuglish. (Coastal Geordie with added Yorky-Lanky bits).

PS The Welsh would not consider your naming of their fine language as mere "lingo" very kindly. And are you suggesting that Wales is just a "locality" of Blightedland rather than a rather distinct and probably superior nation!? Double jeopardy, you're in now, boyo.

Boney
I was generalising,I'm well aware there are a huge element of the US population that can be regarded as "normal" but the country has allowed itself to sink to an all time low in it's madness.

It's quite normal English usage (in places that speak English). I checked for you on a popular search engine:
lingo
ˈlɪŋɡəʊ
noun
humorous
informal
a foreign language or local dialect.
it doesn't matter if you can't speak the lingo

What's in a name?

BBC News: "US President Donald Trump is directing that the Department of Defense be known as the Department of War."

And more amusingly from same piece:

"Earlier on Thursday, Trump downplayed suggestions about seeking the Nobel Peace Prize.

"All I can do is put out wars," he told CBS News, the BBC's US partner. "I don't seek attention. I just want to save lives.""

Trump, move over  .

Radio 4 Todays interview with the Reform Party is still on air

It's classic comedy, we normally have stuff like this after 18.30 Hr's on Radio 4  .. Am definitely going to be listening to the interview at the end of the day, it's a classic.
